 Common questions:

Q.  How do American sizes compare to European sizes?
A.  Unfortunately there isn’t an easy conversion. Number names of pattern sizes from any company are never universal so you shouldn’t pay much attention to them.  The more patterns you use, you find that you’re a 12 in this pattern, a 10 in another, and a 4 in a third pattern.  Instead, choose the right size based off the measurements provided. Circumference measurements are more important than height, as it’s easy to lengthen or shorten the pattern if needed.

Q.  According to my dancer’s bust/chest measurement, she can fit into a small Ladies size or a large Girls size.  How do I know which to choose?
A.  The ‘Girls’ sizes are built for shorter, flat-chested figures, whereas the ‘Ladies’ sizes are built for taller teen and adult shapes with a developed bust.  Use the guide below to figure out the best size category, and know that it is much easier to change the length of the dress than the width.
     Girls sizes
•1-2″ difference between bust and waist measurements
•Short or stocky frame
     Ladies sizes
•4-5″ difference between bust and waist measurements
• Tall or slender frame

Q.  According to my dancer’s bust/chest measurement, she is between two sizes.  How do I know which will be the better fit.
A.  Compare her ‘across front’ measurement and see if that leans towards one size or the other.  It’s easier to alter the side seams than modify the shoulder and armhole.
